Nisantasi: what to know locally

Nisantasi is a busy shopping and dining district, so long days on foot and heavy meals are the norm. City districts have many pharmacies, and the on-duty one for each district changes daily.

How on-duty pharmacies work in Turkey

• A rota decides which pharmacy in each district stays open overnight, on Sundays and on public holidays. This is the on-duty pharmacy.
• The name and address of the on-duty pharmacy are typically posted in the window of every pharmacy in the area.
• Some medicines are sold only with a prescription, and controlled substances need a physical prescription.
• At night you may need to ring a bell or knock, as the on-duty pharmacy often serves through a small window.

Before you go

• The packaging or name of the medicine you usually take.
• Cash or a card; some pharmacies prefer cash at night.
• The address of your accommodation, in case the pharmacist requires to confirm your details.
