A short checklist
- The packaging or name of the medicine you typically take.
- Your passport, because the prescription is linked to your passport number.
- The address of your accommodation, in case the pharmacist needs to confirm your details.
- A note of allergies and other medicines you take.
- Cash or a card; some pharmacies prefer cash at night.
How on-duty pharmacies work in Turkey
- Some medicines are sold only with a prescription, and controlled substances need a physical prescription.
- Pharmacists can advise on minor problems such as mild stomach upsets, insect bites and sunburn.
- A rota decides which pharmacy in each district stays open overnight, on Sundays and on public holidays. This is the on-duty pharmacy.
- Pharmacies (eczane) are marked with a red E sign.
- The name and address of the on-duty pharmacy are normally posted in the window of every pharmacy in the area.
- The on-duty pharmacy may be in a neighbouring district, so a taxi can be useful at night.
Getting a prescription quickly
