Taksim: what to know locally
Taksim and Istiklal Avenue are crowded day and night, so tummy bugs, colds and tired feet are common. Busy nightlife areas have pharmacies near the centre, but late at night only the on-duty pharmacy stays open.
Why one pharmacy stays open
- Pharmacists can advise on minor problems such as mild stomach upsets, insect bites and sunburn.
- The name and address of the on-duty pharmacy are generally posted in the window of every pharmacy in the area.
- The on-duty pharmacy may be in a neighbouring district, so a taxi can be useful at night.
- At night you may need to ring a bell or knock, as the on-duty pharmacy frequently serves through a small window.
- A rota decides which pharmacy in each district stays open overnight, on Sundays and on public holidays. This is the on-duty pharmacy.
Getting a prescription quickly
Skip the clinic: speak to a doctor by video, get an e-prescription if it is suitable and take it to the pharmacy.
